How to Register a Vehicle

Complete guide for vehicle registration, renewal, transfer, duplicate RC, and NOC procedures.

Temporary Registration

An application for Temporary Registration shall be made in Form 20 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

Extension of Temporary Registration

Application for extension shall be made to the Registering Authority along with Temporary Registration documents.

Required Documents
  1. Copy of Sales Certificate in Form 21
  2. Road Worthiness Certificate in Form 22
  3. Valid Insurance Certificate
  4. Pollution Under Control Certificate
  5. Proof of Address
  6. STA Design Approval (Trailer/Semi Trailer)
  7. Original Sales Certificate for Ex-Army Vehicle
  8. Customs Clearance Certificate for Imported Vehicles
  9. Temporary Registration Fee Rs.15/-
  10. Tax as per APMVT Act

Permanent Registration

Application for permanent registration shall be made within 7 days from the date of delivery of vehicle.

Required Documents
  1. Sales Certificate in Form 21
  2. Road Worthiness Certificate in Form 22
  3. Insurance Certificate
  4. Proof of Address
  5. STA Approval for Trailer/Semi Trailer
  6. Original Sales Certificate for Ex-Army Vehicle
  7. PUC Certificate
  8. Customs Clearance Certificate
  9. Fee as per Rule 81
  10. Tax as per APMVT Act
Renewal of Registration Certificate

Application for renewal shall be made in Form 25 before 60 days of expiry.

Duplicate Registration Certificate

Application for duplicate RC shall be made in Form 26.

Transfer of Ownership

Application shall be made in Form 29 and Form 30.

  3. NOC for Other State Vehicle
  4. NOC from Financier
  5. PUC Certificate
Issue of No Objection Certificate (NOC)

Application for NOC shall be made in Form 28.

Change in Residency

Application for address change shall be made in Form 33.

Vehicle Registration Mark Display Rules

Registration marks must be clearly visible on both front and rear sides of the vehicle.

  • Rear number plate must be within one meter from ground.
  • Transport vehicles must display number on both sides.
  • Stage carriage vehicles must display number inside vehicle.
  • Trailer vehicles must display registration mark separately.
