Road Safety Campaigns

Hyderabad Traffic Police runs year-round awareness drives to build a culture of responsible road behaviour across the city.

Every day, thousands of vehicles share Hyderabad's roads — and every journey carries responsibility. Hyderabad Traffic Police conducts a series of ongoing, targeted road safety campaigns designed not just to enforce the law, but to educate, engage, and empower citizens to make safer choices on the road. From school zones to highways, from dawn patrols to night drives, our campaigns address the leading causes of road accidents: over-speeding, drunk driving, helmet non-compliance, and reckless behaviour.

These initiatives combine enforcement with awareness — distributing leaflets, conducting workshops at colleges and offices, deploying breath-analyser checks, and leveraging social media to reach lakhs of commuters. The goal is simple: bring every person home safely. Road safety is not just a police priority — it is a shared civic responsibility, and Hyderabad Traffic Police invites every citizen to be a partner in this mission.

"A moment of carelessness on the road can cost a lifetime. We don't enforce rules to inconvenience you — we enforce them because your life matters more than a few saved minutes."

— Hyderabad Traffic Police

What are the safety precautions in road safety?

Road safety begins with you. Following simple precautions can save lives and make Hyderabad's roads safer for everyone.

🪖 Wear Safety Gear

Always wear a certified helmet while riding a two-wheeler and fasten your seat belt while travelling in a car.

🚦 Follow Traffic Signals

Obey traffic lights, road signs, lane markings, and the instructions of traffic police.

🚫 Don't Drink & Drive

Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It endangers your life and others.

📵 Avoid Distractions

Do not use mobile phones or other distracting devices while driving.

🚗 Drive Responsibly

Maintain speed limits, keep a safe distance, and never drive on the wrong side.

🚑 Give Way to Emergency Vehicles

Always allow ambulances, fire service, and other emergency vehicles to pass without delay.

💙 Remember

Every traffic rule you follow protects a life—possibly your own. Be responsible. Be alert. Arrive safely.

Wrong Side Driving Enforcement Drive

Wrong-side driving is one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents and head-on collisions. Hyderabad Traffic Police is conducting a special enforcement drive to identify and penalize motorists driving against the designated direction of traffic. The campaign focuses on accident-prone locations, promotes lane discipline, and creates awareness to ensure safer roads for all commuters.

Helmet Compulsory Drive

Two-wheeler riders account for the highest share of road fatalities in the city. This drive ensures every rider and pillion wears a certified helmet, conducts spot checks at key junctions, and distributes free helmets to vulnerable communities in partnership with civic groups.

🍺
Night Drives

Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign

Breath-analyser checkpoints operate every Friday and Saturday night across high-risk corridors. Offenders face licence suspension and mandatory counselling. The campaign also runs awareness stalls outside pubs, hotels, and event venues to remind citizens: if you drink, don't drive.

Ongoing

Seat Belt Awareness Drive

Seat belts reduce the risk of death in a crash by over 45%. Officers conduct checks on all arterial roads and expressways, penalising non-compliance and distributing awareness pamphlets. Special emphasis is placed on rear-seat passengers, who are often overlooked.

📱
Year Round

No Mobile While Driving

Using a phone while driving multiplies crash risk fourfold. Plain-clothes officers and surveillance cameras actively monitor arterial roads. The campaign also runs school talks to instil responsible digital habits in the next generation of drivers before they ever get behind the wheel.

🎓
Schools & Colleges

Road Safety Education Programme

Traffic police officers visit schools, colleges, and corporate offices to conduct interactive road safety workshops. Students learn traffic signs, pedestrian safety, first-aid basics, and the consequences of reckless driving through demonstrations, role plays, and audio-visual modules.

🚦
Signal Points

Signal Jumping Enforcement

Red-light violations are one of the top causes of intersection collisions. This campaign deploys AI-assisted cameras at 60+ junctions to capture offenders automatically. Combined with on-ground officers, it has significantly reduced signal-jumping incidents and improved intersection safety city-wide.
